Our Sustainability Promis

At R Family Farms, we are committed to sustainability at every step of our operation, from farm to table:

We provide our pigs with high-quality, locally sourced feed and follow farming practices that prioritize animal welfare and environmental stewardship.

Raising pigs from birth through market weight on our farm eliminates unnecessary transportation and handling, reducing our carbon footprint while enhancing animal well-being.

To support the local economy and ensure the freshest product, we partner with a nearby processor. This minimizes transportation emissions and keeps the journey from farm to processor short.

Our farm integrates crop production with pig farming, efficiently using resources like composted manure as a natural fertilizer. This reduces chemical inputs and promotes healthy, sustainable soil.

We ship with Green Cell Foam, a biodegradable, eco-friendly packaging material, to ensure your order arrives sustainably.

This is our commitment to you: delicious, high-quality pork products raised with care for our animals, our community, and our planet.

Berkshire Pork

FAQ's

FAQs

What happened to R Family Farms?

R Family Farms is alive and well—it’s the farm that started it all.
We launched Territory Trading Company to bring more variety to your table while keeping the same standards you trust. You’ll still find R Family Farms’ Berkshire pork here, now alongside beef, bison, lamb, and poultry from other family farms we know personally and stand behind.

The Meat

What makes Berkshire pork different?

Berkshire pork is known for rich marbling, tenderness, and deep flavor—it’s why chefs often call it the “wagyu of pork.”

Do you offer Wagyu or Akaushi beef?

Yes. We partner with farms raising Wagyu and Akaushi, breeds famous for buttery marbling and a melt-in-your-mouth bite.

What is Piedmontese beef?

Piedmontese cattle are naturally leaner, yet still tender thanks to a unique genetic trait—so you get protein-rich beef without giving up eating quality.

Where does your bison come from?

Our bison is raised on open Kansas pastures, producing meat that’s naturally lean with a clean, slightly sweet flavor.

Do you carry lamb?

Yes—sourced from small family ranches. Our lamb is pasture-raised, mild, and tender—great for roasting, grilling, or lamb meatballs.

What about poultry?

We offer pastured chicken and turkey, raised outdoors with fresh air, space, and access to natural forage.

Standards

Are your animals raised humanely?

Yes. Every partner farm shares a commitment to animal welfare—space to move, daily care, proper shelter, and clean feed. Healthy, low-stress animals produce better food.

Do you farm sustainably?

Sustainability is central to how we operate:

  • We integrate crops and livestock (what we grow feeds animals, and composted manure supports soil health).

  • Practices like cover cropping, rotational grazing, and no-till help protect our land.

  • We prioritize packaging that’s recyclable or biodegradable, using cornstarch-based insulation instead of styrofoam whenever possible.

Shipping & Delivery

Where do you ship?

We ship to the contiguous U.S. (48 states). At this time we do not ship to Alaska, Hawaii, or internationally due to transit time and cold-chain requirements.

When do you ship?

Orders ship Monday–Wednesday. Every shipment is timed to reduce the risk of your box sitting in a carrier warehouse over a weekend.

How does shipping work?

Your meat is vacuum-sealed, frozen at peak freshness, and shipped in insulated packaging. You’ll receive tracking as soon as your order ships.

How fast will my order arrive?

Delivery speed varies by location:

  • Kansas + parts of Eastern Missouri: typically 1-day

  • Midwest + Front Range: typically 2-day

  • Coastal regions + very rural Midwest: typically 3-day

  • Upper New England: can extend to 4-day

You’ll always receive tracking so you can follow your box in real time.

How is the meat packaged?

  • Every cut is vacuum-sealed and frozen at peak freshness.

  • Orders ship in recyclable cardboard boxes with Green Cell Foam insulation (cornstarch-based).

  • Most of the year we ship with dry ice; in deep winter, some orders may ship with ice packs when conditions allow.

Is your packaging eco-friendly?

Yes.

  • Green Cell Foam is a cornstarch-based insulation designed to replace traditional foam.

  • Cardboard is recyclable, and we aim to keep packaging waste minimal without sacrificing safety.

Will my order arrive fully frozen?

Often yes—but it may arrive frozen to partially thawed depending on season and transit speed. This can be normal in shipped frozen food.

Can I refreeze meat if it arrives thawed?

Yes—it is perfectly acceptable to refreeze thawed meat. (Quality is best when it stays colder, but refreezing is common and expected with shipped frozen food.)

How do I check if my order is still cold enough?

The best way is to use an instant-read thermometer placed between two packages of meat (not against the outside of the box). This gives the most useful “real product” reading.

What if my order arrives warm?

If you believe product is unsafe, check temp between packages. If it reads above 40°F, take photos and contact us within 24 hours of delivery with:

  • Order number

  • Photos of the product(s)

  • Photos of the inside packaging/insulation (and dry ice/ice packs if present)

We stand behind safe delivery and will make it right when warranted.

Do I need to be home to receive my order?

Not necessarily. Your box is packed to stay cold through the day, but we recommend bringing it inside and freezing it as soon as possible—especially in warm weather or full sun.

Can I request a specific delivery timing?

Carriers control final delivery dates, so we can’t guarantee exact arrival days—but we can help with timing. If you have a vacation, business delivery, hold-for-pickup request, rural delivery quirks, or anything unusual, call or email us and we’ll help plan the best shipping approach.

What if I entered the wrong address?

Please double-check your address at checkout. Incorrect addresses can cause delays, and with perishable shipments we can’t always guarantee replacement. If you catch a mistake, contact us immediately so we can try to fix it before your order ships.

Orders & Policies

Why is there a minimum order amount?

Frozen shipping requires specialized packaging and dry ice. A minimum order ensures:

  • Enough product weight to hold temperature (thermal mass)

  • Efficient use of packaging

  • Lower environmental impact per pound shipped
It also helps keep shipping costs reasonable.

What’s the “thermal mass” cheat for frozen shipping?

The more pounds you order, the easier it stays cold—like thawing a whole turkey vs. a single pound of ground beef. Bigger orders tend to arrive colder and may unlock free shipping, which can significantly reduce your cost per pound.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping varies by weight and distance. You’ll see exact shipping charges at checkout before you place your order.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Contact us as quickly as possible. Once an order is packed, changes usually aren’t possible—but we’ll do our best if you reach out in time.

Wholesale & Bulk

Do you sell wholesale or bulk?

Yes. We work with restaurants, retailers, and bulk buyers. Larger wholesale orders may ship via freight instead of parcel. Contact us for options and pricing.

Contact

Who will I hear from if I reach out?

Almost always Emily or Kaden Roush—the family behind the farm and the brand. No call centers. No robots. Just real people who love good food.

Still have questions?

Email, call, or message us anytime—we’ll point you to the right farm, the right cut, and the right way to cook it.
